This morning Eliza had her 2 year well check. Everything went swimmingly - first, the nurse checked some vitals and asked some questions. Eliza stayed very still and did as she was told.
Then the nurse's job was finished and we were left to wait. Eliza's favorite place to be is up on the table. She especially likes the crinkly paper but today was really cheesing it up for the camera.Dr. Matlock came through and we talked a lot about Eliza's habits and all of the things she knows how to do. She wants us to watch her weight because she dropped a big statistically. BUT, she put on some pounds and we know she is eating so I am not going to worry. Eliza really enjoyed hearing the birdies in her ears and requested that Dr. Matlock check on them a few times. Dr. Matlock did mention how smart she is as she asked Eliza different questions and needed compliance for all of her investigations. During our talk time, Eliza decided that climbing on the table and jumping off was a lot of fun, so while we waited for the nurse to come back (vaccine and hemoglobin check) she climbed, counted, "2!"...
and jumped.
She also did a little of this. Whatever "this" is.
As always, her hemoglobin was low so we had to wait for the doctor to come back again and chat about what she wants to do about it. While we waited, Eliza strung some beads...
felt very proud and happy...
and asked for "more, more, more."
She strung about 11 before we were encouraged to turn them in and leave. ;)
We barely had enough time to race home, pack Everett a lunch, and go up to join him at school.
Eliza was happy to show him how she had chosen a water bottle for herself today and was a pro at drinking from it too.
Once Everett went back to his classroom for indoor recess (it is COLD today), we had enough time go home, pack Emily a lunch (Eliza actually played in the car), get a diaper change, and hurry back to meet Emily for her lunch period.
Emily was very excited to see Eliza and show her off to all of her friends (several of whom made her birthday pictures and wrote her notes yesterday). And since they too would have indoor recess, Eliza and I sat and watched the "2nd grade parade" in the hallway as the classes dismissed.
"Bye!" (sounds like "die" - oops! No offense intended, haha)
"Love you!"
"Hi, die!"
After an early morning wake up call, a shot, a needle prick, and so much excitement, Eliza was ready for nap time this afternoon!
Eliza's 2 year stats - height: 33.5 inches (51st%), weight: 25 lbs 2 oz (30th %), head circumference: 51 cm ( >99th%)
**Her hemoglobin was only 9.8 gm/dl (normal for kids is 11-13 gm/dl) but it is always about that low. Even when she was taking iron it was that low. However, after following the hematologist's recs (including tests, stopping the iron, and re-checking at 2 years) the doctor now wants us to go see the hematologist and make sure there is nothing that is being missed or going on. I bet there will be a blog post about that visit and it's findings. ;)

That is a downward facing dog!
ReplyDeleteSo the doctor didn't need to test reflexes repeatedly this visit or check on flexibility? She must have seen the yoga pose! That girl is just so happy and spreads it generously!
